Paula Casey and Coral Red played at NDG's fav coffee spot the other night: Shaïka Café.
The café makes a sweet place to study in during the day - it's much better than Starbucks for food, and you're actually supporting a local business. Plus, I always like looking around the café at the artwork; it changes often and vernissages are held for new artists to display their work to the public. We came to see Shaïka transform into a music venue that evening, when they conveniently add beer to the menu and you're in for good music.
Paula Casey started us off with easy-listening/Feist influenced tunes. She has a really sweet voice and a lot of talent. Loved it!
Coral Red's music falls under alternative rock. They're the kind of band that makes you turn to the person beside you and say, "Wow, they're really good." I might check them out again at the Divan Orange on June 16. (http://events.myspace.com/Event/3585828/CORAL-RED-and-INDIE-MONTREAL)
Really craving a slice of divine carrot cake for Shaïka right now...hmm...
More on NDG later!
